Five Keys To Telemarketing Success

Five Keys To Telemarketing Success
by Joyce Oladipo, "The Business Growth Queen"

Telephone can be used to effectively market your business.
Some people have difficulties telling people about their business over the phones.
Here are five guidelines and tips that you can use to grown your business.

1. Have A Script

The real key to effective telephone marketing is having a script. Top of the head answering is not a good idea. A script, an outline, notes, flip cards, some written
tools to help you stay on track are important. Most of the best telemarketing companies create scripts for their business. This scripts are used by there their staff to bring in more business.

2. Courtesy Pays

Courtesy is a very important aspect of telemarketing. The person you are trying to do business with is someone you’re not in main contact with, you can't see you; they can only react to what you are saying and how you're saying it.

3. Don’t Take No As An Offence

Not every one you call would be interesting in your business. So don’t take no personally. It might be that it not what they want at that time. Sometime they can shut you up by hanging up you just have know how to deal with these; don’t let it put you in a shell. Don't take it personally.

4. Practice Makes Perfect

Practice makes perfect, or at least better. You need to call continuously maybe at least twenty or twenty-five calls of a particular type with a particular offer before even beginning to be judgmental about your calling, yourself, your skills or the results. If you've never used a telephone this way before you'll be understandably uncomfortable with the process.

5. Call, Just Call

Until you pick up the phone and call, that's when you will no if it works. Until you keep on calling that when you get perfect.

It's always important to remember that you were not made perfect in a day. Everything you now how to do were once difficult and uncomfortable for you.
Stretching your comfort zones and mastering new skills is an important reoccurring part of living to be enjoyed not feared.

Learning telemarketing skills, mastering them and being able to teach them to others is a way to greatly enhance your value and worth and be able to increase the sales and
profits of just about any business you're involved with.

Unfortunately, I've discovered that many businesses don't like using this tool or because of the DO NOT CALL LIST, they think people no longer use it. For many reasons thatis correct.

But there is one marketing tool every business should 'legally' be using "the phone" in order to grow their business.

What's Unique about LIVE STRONG yellow plastic bracelets?

Today's queen's tip is about Lance Armstrong, who some media outlets report is the greatest athlete of all times.

Perhaps you've seen them, the Canary yellow plastic bracelets that carry the message...LIVE STRONG. This past year, the campaign for cancer survivors celebrated more than its one-year birthday. It also celebrated it success to have surpassed their projected goal of $5 million bracelet sales... a goal that even Lance had some doubt. They have sold $50 million. Not bad for a rubber band, right.

Why people are people buying?

It's wonderful to see that a lot of people are reaching into their pockets to by this inexpensive yet powerful message. After all, nobody twisted their arms.

Certainly the reason for the response is multi-faceted including Lance's massive awareness as he reaches for Tour de France for a 7th time. We can never under estimate the power this unique alignment can have combined with great language and ideas. Whether it is $100 K, 5$ M or $50 M, the same elements that make up this unique brand always exit. It is very clear as to why the brand exists; it is unique and has an intentioned impact.

And now due to this overwhelming success, LIVE STRONG is now rolling into a clothing and shoe line under the umbrella of NIKE. And it's a great thing. We project that if NIKE and Lance continue to stay true to the integrity that made the bracelets touch people hearts, LIVE STRONG clothes and shoes will fly off the shelves as well. And it's a great thing.

Very often businesses support charities as a side note or for political positioning. It's rare to see the connection to help people woven into the very fabric of their business --instead of the surface. So how could we even imagine how they managed to sell 50 million rubber bands one at a time?

Are You My Mentor?: Four Ways to Find One

Are You My Mentor?: Four Ways to Find One
By Joyce Oladipo "The Business Growth Queen"

It might not come as a surprise to you, but if you interviewed every successful business leader that ever lived, you would discover somewhere on the journey to their success every single one of them had a mentor-- someone who guided them with insight and feedback. That said, sadly less than 10% of the entrepreneurs I meet around the globe have the support of such a trusted soul.
Now... with information overload at the click of a mouse, it's hard to tell who is really a candidate for mentorship. Millions of entrepreneurs asking "are you my mentor?"

The dictionary describes mentor as: somebody, usually older and more experienced, who provides advice and support to, and watches over and fosters the progress of, a younger, less experienced person.

My first mentor came through reading "Think and Grow Rich". I read it every month. I wrote my goals in my journal and believed it's achievable. Somehow knowing that I needed enforcement to accomplish my vision, I taped each and every one of my goals to my closet doors to guide each step I took. One that stayed with me all these years, "Wheresoever you go, go with all your heart."

I found my next mentor -- an internet marketer Corey Rudy. He was the first one to expose me to marketing. He made a lot of money online.

Later my mentors came through the books I read, Shirley Maclaine, Alexandria Brown, and Mark Victor Hansen. Each one providing me valuable insight and loving support for the next step to take. I would eat their messages up like they were sitting beside me at the table I read from. I would live their messages as if they were walking right beside me. I put into action their intelligence as if they told it to me themselves. Because to me, they had.

Now... I'm putting what Confucius, Shirley, Alexandria, and Mark have taught me into action as a mentor myself to others.

Before you take the leap and allow someone or something into that sacred space of being your mentor, especially in this information saturated age, I suggest you hold them to all four of these measures when considering them.

1) They truly have a skill that you would like to possess, not merely having a life that you would like for your own.
2) They communicate from a place that connects to you, instead of trying to fit your understanding into theirs.
3) They demonstrate a life that you respect and provide an example you would like to model, instead of you working to see past any incongruence demonstrations.
4) They make themselves available to you (be it live, through books, or even fortune cookies) without holding anything back, instead of positioning themselves on a throne.

By applying these filters to your mentors, you can be rest assured that you're getting information that from someone you trust and a person you respect.

When you finally find your mentor be sure to eat up their wisdom as if they told it to you personally and follow their example whether they are right in front of you or not. If you do, I promise you, they will be with you every step of the way.

Just this past week, I was shopping with one of the mentors I've mentioned in this article. I got to tell her face-to-face the impact that she's had on my life from afar.

MySpace Marketing Profile: Husband 4 Rent

MySpace Marketing Profile: Husband 4 Rent
By Joyce Oladipo “The Business Growth Queen”

Lately I have been pretty interested in MySpace and I‘ve had the chance to speak with several people about promoting their offline business on the internet, so when I ran across the Husband 4 Rent on MySpace I paid attention to how he was using the community to promote his offline business.

You probably know what he does from his MySpace name; Gene Simpkins provides general handyman services in his local area. He doesn’t have a website set up, but instead simply uses MySpace to gain exposure online. A quick search on Google shows that he is also using Craigslist and the Nashville.com classifieds to get the word out too.

What really fascinates me about Gene's marketing action plan, and why I chose this "online marketer" profile, is because of the way he uses MySpace to promote his business.

Gene is not blatantly advertising across MySpace, annoying other members and risking removal of his profile and account. Instead, he obviously appreciates the power of this highly-popular social network, and is using it to gain exposure and build relationships.

If you study the Husband 4 Rent profile and connections, you will see that he sets a perfect example of proper MySpace marketing. Some of the tips you might pick up from Gene are:

Choose a short, catchy username.
Using a long name, or odd characters, doesn’t really have any effect on MySpace. As this name is what’s going to be displayed in comments and inboxes, you need to use something that will catch people’s attention at a glance. It would even be better to use your real name or your business name than you using a slogan like "Get Rich Quick!!! I'll Show You How!!!" which will just get ignored. Keep in mind that this is a social network, and your primary goal is to network and build relationships.

Include photos of yourself.
I would be much interesting to use your real photo than using your business logo or a product image for your profile. You can upload these to your Pictures page, and even place them on your main profile page in the content area, but you want your main image to be 'approachable', as you can see, Gene has used photos of himself that include his contact information as part of the image. This is a great example of Photo Marketing. It is subtle yet effective.

Be Personable, Not Promotional.
Most marketers will take the first opportunity to post blatant spam in the comments area of your MySpace profile. Most of them use a lot of flashy images, logos or links; it is obvious that they are more interested in promoting their business or website than they are in greeting you. These are the comments I will always delete from my profile. Instead, follow Gene's example and let the network work in the way it was intended: if people are interested (based on your photo, username and general impression of your character), they will click through to your profile. Period.

Use a Clean, Easy to Read Template.
Snazzy MySpace templates are cool, I know - but they make your text very hard to read. Distractions like music blaring or glittery animations are for the teens - not for the marketers. On Gene's profile, you will notice that he uses a slideshow to display his images and then describes the services that he offers along with his contact information. It's very personable, and very professional.

Be Deliberate in Building a Reputation.
In Gene's business, he obviously needs to build a reputation online as a trustworthy, dependable professional. This is important if he expects people to hire him for work to be done at or in their home. In addition to the trust factor, it’s well-known that people hire people they like, know and trust. If you annoy or offend people, you won’t gain their business OR their referrals.

Network with Other Professionals.
In addition to reaching your target market, social networks are a great place to connect with other professionals in your industry. These connections are invaluable to the small business owner, as positive relationships will encourage professional recommendations. Great examples on Gene's profile include Mother's Touch House Cleaning and 21st Century Termite Control. I wish the housekeeper was in my local area, as the testimonial in her comments section made me want to hire her!

If you set up a MySpace profile specifically to promote your business or gain exposure in your local area, it's important that you keep everything related to your profile on target. If you add blog posts or photos to your profile, make sure they are related and professional. If you want to use MySpace for personal socializing, then set up a separate profile for that and keep your business profile professional.

I was really impressed with Gene, his business, and how well he presents himself through MySpace. It’s a free online marketing strategy that I believe works very well for him. By the way, his MySpace profile ranks in the top 3 on Google for "Husband 4 Rent". While this may not be an ideal keyword phrase, you can see how helpful this might be for someone who doesn’t want to invest the time and money to develop a full-blown website and marketing plan…

I've started with MySpace too so check it out join my friend list and let's grow our business together.

Creating Winning Handwritten Signatures

Creating Winning Handwritten Signatures
By Joyce Oladipo “The Business Growth Queen”

Handwritten Signatures are a great way to brand yourself and add a professional torch to your forum posts, emails and even your website. You can even add them to blog posts and articles to give them a more personal feel, or to brand your writing.
There are different ways you can create you signature. You can sign a white piece of paper, scan it and save it to your computer. You can then manipulate the sharpness, contrast and size… and then upload the image to your server so that you can use it.
Another option is to create an image signature using fonts, in an image editing program like Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. You can create an image that looks very much like your own signature, or just something that you like. Using the same process, you upload the image and then link to that image wherever you would like to use it online.
It’s not easy to use these options they both require a little bit of technical know-how or a learning curve. If you don’t have a scanner, image editing program, a hosting account, or know how to "FTP"… that may seem like too much trouble.
Have found an easy solution: http://www.mylivesignature.com/
You can create graphic signatures very quickly and easily with My Live Signature. It's as easy as creating an account, type your signature name, selecting your options and then copying & pasting the code for your new 'siggy'. Here are two examples that I created in a matter of minutes:

The image is even hosted by My Live Signature, so there is nothing required outside of a few minutes to choose your fonts and colours. It’s completely free to use this service, to create and use the images.
They do have a few 'upgrade options' though if you want something a little fancier. For example, you can scan your own signature in and send it to them and let them animate it. Or you can purchase an animated version of your signature graphic. They are very nicely done… and like I said, this is a super-easy option for those of you that need something simple yet professional.

How Do You Eat a Watermelon?

How Do You Eat a Watermelon?
By Joyce Oladipo "The Business Growth Queen"

All customers are not alike. Some have different views of the
world, different values and different belief systems. Yet, to sell
a customer successfully you must be able to communicate with
them within their 'view of the world.' Because people like people
who are like themselves.

Don't you like to do business with people who are similar to you?

When you understand this simple concept perhaps you can begin
to adjust your sales approach and close more sales. Just a suggestion!

The Global View of The World

Some people always look at the BIG picture. 'How is my decision
to buy going to affect the global economy, the environment or
my future retirement.' What about my city, my state or the
nation as a whole?

How can you tap into their global view of the world. Talk about
the advantages of their actions affecting the big picture. Making
a contribution by helping others in society.

The Personal View of The World

Some people are looking out for themselves, the present time
and their families. 'How is this buying decision going to affect
me personally or affect my immediate family.' What 'desire' do
you as the store owner or service owner need to stress that will
tap into their personal view of the world. Money, Success, happiness,
you only live once,' 'what have you done for me lately.'

When you write ads, talk to customers or design promotional
material, keep in mind how people view the world and ask them
questions to find out how they view the world and their role in it.

How do you eat a watermelon? One chunk at a time. Either a
global chunk or a personal chunk.

*****************************************************
Marketing Tips of the Month

How to find out if your ad will be successful before you place it?

Here is the answer to this question.

Tell me, how do you feel when you read this question? Curious?
Or 'I know that already.' If yourad provokes curiousity you're on
the right track. The purpose of any headline is not to sell,
it's to get people to read the rest of the ad.... Period....
That's why professional copywriters write several (10-50)
headlines before they choose one to test. There are two words
which will give you the key to success in any ad headline.
Want to know what the two words are? I thought you might care to know!

Who Cares? Look in your local newspaper or the yellow pages.
Read the headline (if there is one) and ask 'Who Cares?' If you
care to know more, it will be a successful ad. But, if you can answer
'Who Cares? to most of the ads, they are probably very similar.
Test it out for yourself. And while you're at it. See
if you can remember which company one of those 'Who Cares'
ads were for!
