Google Alerts

Google is by far one of the most power tools on the web. As a brand it amazes me because for must of us... using it is FR*EE! Yet they are raking in the bucks and the brand is valued at $12,376 million dollars. In fact it's brand value rose 46% in 2006.

One of the FR*EE things that Google offers is a service to notifiy you of whose Googling you? It's called Google Alert.

Available to anyone, you simply set up the details in 2 minutes or less and a notice gets emailed to you when someone searches for whatever you set up through Google. You can even set them to come to you as it happens, by day, or by week.

When I first stumbled upon Google Alerts, I was so excited I had the alerts come to me as it happened. Yowza! I started to get so many of them that I actually became distracted by them. N*ow I have them come to me weekly and I can compare the increase in traffic to the different campaigns or promotions that I am running.

It's the same skill that is needed to attract women that is used to attract prospects. Sometimes good looking guys are struggling to keep the women. You do not have to be the best looking guy to attract more money and growth to your business, as long as you have what it takes to be the best.

While this is true, one must also remember the facts about "Returns/Refunds. It may not matter how good your product is when selling it, but if you don't live up to your promise, it will greatly affect your returns.

Winning a woman's heart and keeping it are two entirely different matters. You may be able to initially attract her in different ways, but if the product is not up to her standards, away it goes.

Of course a side note about women is that they really aren't primarily attracted to a man's looks like men are attracted to a woman's looks. Women are attracted to a loving, caring, sensitive, understanding man. That's why the bald headed, heavier guy can also attract beautiful women just as the handsome looking guy can.

Actually, the man's product is what's on the inside, not on the outside. Once she sees the true nature of the 'product' and finds it unsatisfactory, off it goes . . . back from where it came!

That's why running a successful business is built on quality and value. You need to provide more sustaining value to your clients. If not they would move on to your competitors. That's the reason why the cutest guy doesn't always have the cutest women. He has nothing else to offer than a great face.

So watch how your clients perceive your product and you.

I had lunch with a former client and good friend. He admitted he had so many interests
outside his practice that he was finding it hard to provide the prompt service he once provided.

He made an interesting observation, which I've echoed for years in my seminars. He said that
his clients may not be able to evaluate the depth of his knowledge or skill. But two things
they can and do evaluate, immediately, are the level of service he provides and whether they like him.

A few months a ago, I provided marketing services to some accountants, two of those CPA's called me to talk about marketing. They referred to a colleague who was always swamped with business. They told me the man was a terrible accountant but his clients loved him. And his winning personality kept clients coming back.

So, to have a successful marketing, you need two things: A good service and good marketing.

And today, even if you don't have in-depth knowledge, your clients will send you referrals as long as you provide good service and work well with them. This is why a new business owner fresh out of school can have effective marketing and attract more clients than a seasoned veteran who
has three times the knowledge and experience.

A 5 Year Old's Recipe for Success

My sister five years old son, had tried playing soccer, basketball and netball but still find it difficult to get it going. To be honest, he wasn't good at all.

It did not concern me that he wasn't an athlete but what did concern me was that because he wasn't good in any of these sports, he lost confidence in himself. He believed that he wasn't going to be good at any athletic activity and therefore didn't even want to try anything new.

Many adults do the same thing. They start their own business to become their own boss, when it doesn't work, they develop the universal belief that they are just not cut out to work for themselves and be successful. I've started 2 other business (Beauty consultant and Tutoring) before becoming the business growth expert. I couldn't leverage these businesses very well but I was able to grow them to make money to pay my bills.

What have learnt over the years is that all successful people have failed many more times than unsuccessful people. The difference is that the successful person keeps trying while the unsuccessful person just gives up.

Bear in mind that I'm not talking about doing the same things that don't work over and over again and hoping that you get a different result. I'm talking about determining what you want, fixing what's wrong, measuring your results, and trying new approaches until you reach your goal.

If you follow that simple formula, success will follow.

Yesterday, I took Samuel for an introductory Karate lesson. He was afraid and didn't want to go. But as the lesson progressed, he began to smile then something amazing happened after the training session was over...he ran to me with joy in his face, he actually discovered that he was good at it. I must say "he really was". I could see his confidence grew and he was having so much fun.

This morning he put on his Karate uniform and wanted to know when he could go back to class.

We can all learn something from the success secrets of a 5 year old boy.

Spring is on the horizon for most of us, especially the lucky ladies on the West coast, but why not keep the Winter fun going just a little bit longer? For a playful and unique escapade, take your sweetie, your girls or your kids ice skating! It can be a fun, romantic date… just picture holding hands with your honey and keeping each other warm inside the chilly rink. Even for a first date, it can be a great "ice breaker" because you both will be so focused on not falling that you won't be nervous about the date. You'll be laughing at each other while showing off your fun, adventurous side.

If you're looking for a creative night of bonding with the girls, then hit the local rink and throw your very own little Ice Capades party. Bundle up in something warm and cuddly, drink hot chocolate and hold hands with your girls as you show off your skills - or lack thereof. Nothing feels better than laughter and a night at the rink will ensure that you enjoy tons of it.

You can always make it a family affair, because there are few kids who don't want to try a spin on the ice. What is so spectacular about a day or night at the rink is that you will be able to incorporate some good exercise into your fun. Ice skating is a killer workout for your quads and glutes, provides low-impact cardiovascular benefits and improves balance and endurance.

The American College of Sports Medicine states that a 150-pound person burns about 600 calories per hour of skating - that's about the same as running five miles in an hour but a lot more fun! Plus, when you leave, you'll have that rosy glow usually owed to the snow!

I guess I'm in a celebrity theme mood this week. Two emails about Halle Berry, but today is about Tom Cruise.

Regardless of what you think about Tom Cruise, he is a very successful actor and he's a "Millionaires".

I was watching "Inside the Actors Studio" the other day when Tom said, I'm paraphrasing, "When I'm on the set shooting the movie, I am the character. I don't have thoughts about what I should be feeling or doing because I have so thoroughly prepared ahead of time."

Tom said for the "Last Samurai" the preparation was for over a year and it took him 7 months, 3 hours a day to learn the sword technique.

How many of us are that disciplined in our business? I know that I am not but, I'm really working hard on it.

How many of us thoroughly prepare for every sales call we make? The top producers do and that's why they are top producers.

A lot of people, especially today, look at the mega wealthy and successful and say, "Gee, aren't they lucky." Yeah, it's all luck. Right.
